Goodwood Festival of Speed, Team CCC achieves outright win in Soapbox Derby!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is Europe's premier historic motorsports event, created by the Earl of March and held annually at his country estate.

There is no other event in the world like the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is, quite simply, the most awesome gathering of motor racing machinery of the year, attracting stars and cars to Goodwood Park from every corner of motor racing's Hall of Fame.

The 'Soapbox Derby' is a race recently introduced to the festival and competitors are invited to take part by the Earl. Some of this years entrants included, the Bugatti Owners Club, Ford, G-force, Honda, Ilmor, Prodrive, Renault, Rolls Royce and the Vintage Sports Car Club.

For this years event we had been invited to team up with a Client, Cheshire Cycle Components Ltd (CCC) and we were more than happy to accept and to provide technical assistance with the design and construction of the open classic look 'roadster' they were to construct.

The other available class is for closed state of the art 'streamliners' and it was predicted that these more aerodynamic and complex vehicles would ultimately score the fastest times down the hill. Speeds of up to 60mph had been recorded by the fastest vehicles in practise sessions held prior to the event.

During Friday's practise session the CCC car ran faultlessly and posted, by a clear margin the fastest time of the day. On Saturday the day of the first race it was evident that some of the teams were feeling the pressure, as there was talk of teams tuning vehicles late on into the previous night.

Once again the CCC car ran faultlessly and this time faced closer competition, however this was to prove to be of no avail as the car posted the fastest time of the day once more.

The CCC Team was starting to think that they had a chance of winning the event outright, before the event they had only considered the possibility of winning their class, the last race was going to be very exciting.

Once more Sunday was a clear and sunny day and the Team waited for the start of the final race with some trepidation at the top of the hill. For the final run the car and driver, Bob Dixon raced against a radically designed machine from B&O Speakers, after a closely fought duel down the hill Bob crossed this finishing line first.

At the end of the event all competitors waited anxiously to hear the times of the day, as the winner would be decided on the aggregated time of the two races.

The final result was a clear victory to Team CCC, not only had they won their class, they had achieved the fastest time of the weekend giving them overall victory in the event. A very happy Bob Dixon gratefully received the winning trophy from Gordon Murray, on behalf of the team at the afternoon's prize giving ceremony.
